Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Officers report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then located many other marked cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests show the liquid was likely human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
City officials stated they were attempting "to solve the case" and have requested to the community for information.
An important official said the incident left him speechless and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
